Review: Vesper

Synopsis: Emily Webb is a geek. And she’s happy that way. Content hiding under hoodies and curling up to watch old horror flicks, she’s never been the kind of girl who sneaks out for midnight parties. And she’s definitely not the kind of girl who starts fights or flirts with other girls’ boyfriends. Until one night Emily finds herself doing exactly that . . . the same night one of her classmates—also named Emily—is found mysteriously murdered.  The thing is, Emily doesn’t know why she’s doing any of this. By day, she’s the same old boring Emily, but by night, she turns into a thrill seeker. With every nightfall, Emily gets wilder until it’s no longer just her personality that changes. Her body can do things it never could before: Emily is now strong, fast, and utterly fearless. And soon Emily realizes that she’s not just coming out of her shell . . . there’s something much bigger going on. Is she bewitched by the soul of the other, murdered Emily? Or is Emily Webb becoming something else entirely— something not human?  As Emily hunts for answers, she finds out that she’s not the only one this is happening to—some of her classmates are changing as well. Who is turning these teens into monsters—and how many people will they kill to get what they want?

My Review: I'll say upfront that this book threw me for a loop.  It was not at all what I was expecting, and just kept surprising me around every corner.  In a very good way of course.  XD

Emily Webb is your normal introverted socially awkward young teenage girl.  She wears baggy sweatshirts because she's uncomfortable in her own skin, and does everything she can to not be seen. That is until the night she finds herself climbing out of her window dressed like a hooker.  Emily suddenly finds herself doing things she'd never do, and that she is capable of ninja like stunts.  The Nighttime Emily is out to play, and she will definitely get her way. (Dear lord that rhymed!) The night it all began, another girl named Emily was brutally murdered.  A couple days later another boy is shot.  Someone or something is hunting teenagers  in Emily's town, and she fears that she is next.

I went into this book thinking that Emily was being possessed by the other Emily.  That's what the synopsis led me to believe.  I can't say anything besides that, but man was I in for a shocker.  The author does a tremendous job of pulling you through the story and then pulling the rug out from underneath you.  With every aspect of the plot I just kept being surprised.  I loved every second of it.  If there is something I love more than a unique story it's SURPRISES! Yet, they weren't gimicky.  They made perfect sense and didn't come completely out of the blue.  It made the novel more interesting and really pulled you through it.  I literally couldn't put it down.  I was up until two in the morning just trying to finish it.  That good.

I really enjoyed Emily's character.  She's a movie freak like me!  And she's also an obsessive list maker.  Again...me.  Haha.  Watching her discover herself, as well as discover who is behind the killings was very entertaining.  Emily's nighttime shenanigans were for lack of a better word fantastically entertaining.  Emily's actions were horrifying, but oh so awesome.

What I really found awesome about this novel, was the tape transactions.  They really added to the story and added to the suspense.  The ending was freakin awesome! Ah! The intensity and the badass-ness!  Epic beyond belief.  And such a tease too! I'm dying for the sequel already!  I really enjoyed this book and I'm eager for more!
