Dog Eared

Dog Eared is a chance to share some of my most worn "dog eared" books that I love to read over and over...and over again. This weeks Dog Eared is Wake by Lisa McMann!

Synopsis: For seventeen-year-old Janie, getting sucked into other people's dreams is getting old. Especially the falling dreams, the naked-but-nobody-notices dreams, and the sex-crazed dreams. Janie's seen enough fantasy booty to last her a lifetime.

She can't tell anybody about what she does -- they'd never believe her, or worse, they'd think she's a freak. So Janie lives on the fringe, cursed with an ability she doesn't want and can't control.

Then she falls into a gruesome nightmare, one that chills her to the bone. For the first time, Janie is more than a witness to someone else's twisted psyche. She is a participant....

I remember when I first discovered this book.  It was such a novel idea that I kind of staked out the bookstore until it came out.  I think the people working at Waldens were a little creeped out from seeing me so much... aside from my weird stalker-ness I was so excited when I got this book!  The writing style wasn't at all like I was expecting.  It's hard to describe, but Lisa McMann definitely has her own unique writing style, and frankly I love it.   It's refreshing to pick up a book and actually appreciate not only the unique story but the writing as well.  I love Janie as a main character, and a lot of her comments and ideas are just so funny.  Janie is very goal oriented and is determined to not let her "disability" stop her from living her dreams and making a life for herself.  She has a very troubling home situation and problems with her mother, but she doesn't let it get her down, and if anything it makes her even more determined to get the Hell out of Dodge (excuse the cheesy reference.)  Caleb is probably one of my all time favorite love interests.  I know right?  That's a very long list, but hey he truly is one of my favorites.  He's so down to earth, realistic, caring, and is trying to overcome past tragedies and hard times.  He's just so REAL.  So many times the love interest is just all too perfect and it's nice to know that hey, normal guys can be just as amazing.  Plus Janie and Caleb are just the most adorable couple ever in my opinion.  Both Wake and Fade are equally amazing. Though I haven't gotten my hands on Gone yet.  For any of you die hard Caleb fans, check out Lisa's Website!  There is a free download of Caleb's story!  (And yes I already did a fan-girl squeel and then downloaded it immediately)
