Fairy Dessert!

Hey amigas!  I have some exciting news!  Lisa Mantchev is holding an awesome contest over on her livejournal.  Or rather the Fearsome Foursome (aka Peaseblossom, Cobweb, Moth, and Mustardseed) are having a contest to see who has the best desert recipe!  So yes that means go digging through your recipe box RIGHT NOW and find the most sugary thing possible. What is the prize, you may ask?  Only an ARC for Perchance to Dream!  Woot woot!  I'm so excited for this book I'm literally bouncing!  The amazing cover art is to the right! The rules are as follows!

1) Pick a fairy-irresistible dessert and find a recipe and/or pic of that sugar-coated confection!

2) PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR DESSERT HERE. You need to blog/Facebook/otherwise social-media-broadcast your dessert suggestion, including a linkback to this contest entry.

3) For extra chances to win, a) include the cover art for Perchance To Dream in your blog entry and/or b) a link to a site where a reader can preorder Perchance To Dream (like the University of Washington bookstore, for a signed copy!, or Indiebound, or Book Depository) and/or c) Tweet about the contest with a link to this entry. Please advise me in your email which of these you've done and include links.

4) Send the URL for your post to lisa at lisamantchev dot com with the subject line "FAIRY DESSERT"

5) One dessert entry per person

6) Contest is worldwide, but you need to inform me in your dessert-submission email if you are an international entry, please.

7) Deadline is a week from today: midnight PST, March 22nd! The fairies will choose at least one winner based on their dessert selection and another drawn at random from the entries received.

And drum roll please!  My recipe that is fairy worthy is...... Italian Cream Cake!   Yes this fattening, sugary goodness is pure deliciousness!  Like drool worthy.  Plus there's coconut.  Lots, and LOTS, of coconut.  Which makes me extremely happy because I adore coconut.  Probably a little too much...  oh and did I mention two cups of sugar?  Yes indeed, this is definitely fairy worthy.  :D   So enough of my salivating here.  Here's the recipe!

Italian Cream Cake
Cream together:
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
1/4 tsp. salt
2 cups sugar (beat smooth)
5 egg yolks beaten well
Mix and add to eggs and butter, alternating with milk:
2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
5 egg whites whipped, fold in
1 small can angel flake coconut (3.7 oz)
1 cup chopped pecans

Bake at 350 for 25 minutes in a 9x13 pan, and ENJOY the deliciousness!
